Before Lambeau Leaps, cheeseheads, and the iconic “G,” there was a song — a chant that united Wisconsin under one voice: “Go! You Packers Go!”
Written in 1931 by Eric Karll, a Milwaukee-based advertising composer, the tune became the first official fight song in NFL history. Karll’s lyrics captured the growing excitement for the Green Bay Packers, a small-town team on the verge of becoming a national powerhouse.
To help share the anthem, Baum’s Department Store in Green Bay printed and distributed sheet-music copies — like the one shown above — featuring photos of Curly Lambeau and the Packers’ 1931 championship team.
🏈 From Milwaukee to Green Bay — and Into NFL History
When the song debuted, the Packers were in the middle of three straight NFL titles (1929-31) under Curly Lambeau. Fans across Wisconsin, from Milwaukee to the Fox River, sang along to Karll’s words:
“Touchdown Packers! Fight! Fight! Fight!”
The song became more than a football chant — it was a rallying cry for Wisconsin pride. A Milwaukee composer wrote it, a Green Bay store promoted it, and fans across the state made it legendary.
🌍 From Green Bay to Paris — Titletown Lives On
Nearly a century later, that same energy echoes here in Paris, home of Titletown Europe — the official Green Bay Packers fan club and apparel brand bringing Lambeau spirit to the heart of Europe.
Every time we hear “Go! You Packers Go!”, we’re reminded that the Packers aren’t just a team — they’re a story of community, creativity, and courage that started in Wisconsin and now inspires fans worldwide.
Touchdown Packers — Fight! Fight! Fight!
From Milwaukee to Green Bay to Paris — Forever Green. Forever Gold. Forever Titletown.
⚡ Quick Fun Fact
🎵 In 1961, the song was re-recorded by the NFL Marching Band, and it’s still played after every Packers touchdown at Lambeau Field — making it one of the longest-running traditions in professional sports.
