What a first half! On New Yearβs Day, Packers fans in Paris were already dragging a bit from the usual NYE festivities. But before the 10:20 pm kickoff vs. the Vikes a bit of assistance was required. Packers fans found themselves in the unlikely position of cheering on the Browns, whose win over the Commanders set up the Pack to reclaim control of its post-season destiny. Commanders thusly dispatched. Packers fans in Paris turned their attention to the Vikings at Lambeau, doing their best to not even remember the first game of the season.
But then, genius! A kickoff returned 105 yards for a TD! A pick-six returned 75 yards! A strip-sack fumble was recovered by the Packers! A 56-yard FG from silver fox Crosby! And that wasnβt all, and it was only the first half!
Packers fans in Paris were forgetting their NYE hangovers when Danny at Le Tennessee told us we had to keep down all the cheering. Sheesh- there were apparently French people at the bar and they didnβt get it! Wow! No worries. We repaired to the Moose where outbursts are better tolerated!
Moose bartender and Packer fan James gladly served us up some IPAs. Meanwhile, Wisconsin tourists at the Moose tried unsuccessfully to explain the location of their hamlet, βhalfway between Chippawa Falls and Stevens Point.β No, thatβs not near Baraboo we learned.
Second-half play lost a little excitement due to the lackluster effort of the Purple team, their spirit apparently eviscerated. Nevermind. The Packers are in the playoffs with a victory over the Lions next week! Later we learned the NFL flexed the game to Sunday Night so more fans can watch. Except thatβs a 2:20 am kickoff for Packers fans in Paris.
Mais cβest pas vrai! Next Monday is going to be tough.
